Do you know how many Master Sommeliers there are in Australia?

Four.

And Ben Hasko is one of them.

This is your chance to sit down with a virtual unicorn.  Over a three course menu, gain insights from a man who has reached the highest level of proficiency and knowledge in his profession. This year, just six people in the world have gained Master Sommelier status and the pass rate is typically less than 5%.

Ben completed the Master Sommelier examination in London in October 2016, becoming the 236th Master Sommelier in the world. He received the inaugural Dom Ruinart Cup for completing the examination on his first attempt (most candidates take three or four attempts). Ben is passionate about wine education in Australia, and will be an engaging and informative host, showcasing wines with a mix of benchmark and up-and-coming producers from established and emerging regions:

What happens at this event?
* You’ll be joining a shared table with Ben in the private dining room, upstairs at The Bishop (please let us know if you’d like to be seated with other guests attending).
* You’ll be served 9 different wines, accompanied by a set 3-course menu (we can cater for most common dietary requirements; but please advise us of your requests at least 7 days in advance) 

 

Ben is the director of Luxury Beverage Group, and the two underlying companies, Bootleggers Wine & Spirits and Cru Wines.  Previously, he worked at Sydney’s Rockpool and Vue de Monde in Melbourne, and says, “I really enjoyed being a sommelier. Not only discovering amazing wines for myself but learning how to read a customer’s palate, understanding what they want and will love – even when they sometimes can’t communicate it themselves – and being a part of them discovering something new. This is what got me interested in starting to study for the sommelier exams back in 2011 and it was a natural progression that I ended up studying for both the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier at the same time.”
